Hiking - Walking: Martlesham Creek Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: Sunny and hot :) Max Speed: Distance Covered: 4.92 miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Wednesday 16th August – walk ***** Martlesham Creek to Woodbridge –
sunny and hot.
As Mag had an appointment at the Nuffield hospital near Ipswich for an x
– ray on her broken arm at 2 this afternoon we to make a day of it, pack
a picnic and head over to the lovely Martlesham Church for a walk to Kyson
Point:) I had time to do my exercises in the back garden, hot with wall to
wall sunshine, then we left Felixstowe at 10.45 arriving at Martlesham just
after 11. We walked through the churchyard, sadly not looking its best in
the summer with no flowers growing, I had a quick look around the church
which has some lovely stained-glass windows:) We take the footpath out of
the back of the church before turning left taking us down to Martlesham
Creek with loads of blackberries coming on well now. The tide was high and
there were loads of swans out on the water as we walked through the small
boat yard taking some nice pics. Then we continue along the footpath along
the creek coming out by the boatshed on the banks of the River Deben, we
could get through with no paddling but we had taken a towel just in case we
got wet feet! We were way too early for lunch so carried onto Woodbridge,
taking the inland path coming out in the park before returning to the
river. It was nice to see people enjoying the lovely summer weather,
walking the prom, crabbing, sailing, canoeing and taking river sightseeing
trips:) We were hoping to have lunch by the boatshed but the tide was
really high now and there were several people swimming so we sat in the
shade close to the Deben for our yummy lunch watching the boat action, just
lovely:) Then we ambled back, up the steep steps and back to the van seeing
a baler in action too. Then it’s a short drive for Mags x – ray which
was completed verry quickly, then we took the back roads to Felixstowe and
I was lucky enough to get my first combine pics of the year, the highlight
being the hare running out of the wheat before quickly disappearing! Then
home absolutely knackered as we had walked close to 5 miles which is taking
a toll on my dodgy knees and it looks like I am going to have a windsurf
foiling session on the River Stour tomorrow!
I have had a good day for my pics, first I had two big ones of the
fantastic sunset I captured the other day at Felixstowe Ferry, then this
evening I got my first pic of the month on TV on BBC’s Look East of the
Tide Mill at Woodbridge:) – It’s been a top week so far!
Might head down to the Ferry to see the sunset later, if I am still
awake!
